Information in English

The chocolate market rose in Romania January through August 2007 by over 17 percent from the year-ago period, says an AC Nielsen market research.
But Romanians eat only 1.4 kg of chocolate per capita, around five times less than West Europeans.

One of the biggest food producers, Kraft Foods Romania, posted in the first eight months this year a rise in chocolate sales of some 25 percent in volume and 30 percent in value compared with the year-ago period, with Poiana brand reporting the highest chocolate sales in Romania.

The most developed in Romania is the tablet segment, accounting for the highest consumption rate and reporting constant rise. Kraft Foods Romania sold over 350 million Poiana tablets since its launch in 1995, with the brand becoming a market leader as early as the first year after launch.

According to a GFK market research for August 2007, over 80 percent of Romanians believe Poiana is the better known chocolate brand in Romania.
