Information in English

Actavis Romania, a world’s excellence centre for the development, production and trade of cancer drugs, closed H1 2007 on revenues of 56 million euros, up 24 percent from H1 2006.

Out of the total H 1 2007 sales reported by Actavis Romania, a local arm of the Icelandic company by the same name, 90 percent were performed in Romania, having generated revenues of 50.5 million euros, and the remaining on foreign markets.

Actavis Romania Country Manager Laurentiu Scheusan says the company’s sales in H1 2007 overgrew average local sales and even the averages recorded by the Actavis branches, and that the company will release in Romania 20 new products in 2007.

Actavis Romania is manufacturing over 200 oncology compounds registered in 24 European countries, and six such compounds about to be registered. The company is currently exporting 29 of its oncology products to the UK, Japan, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia, Slovakia, Belarus, Moldova and Russia.

The company’s sales of cancer drugs to hospitals made up approximately 88 percent of the company’s total 2006 sales, while drugs sold by retail trade made up just 2 percent. Actavis local development strategy in Romania includes further development on the retail trade segment.
According to Scheusan, Romania’s market for generic drugs should reach 450 million euros in late 2007, compared with 414 million euros in 2006. „Generic drugs are making up 31 percent of the pharmaceutics market of Romania, which is among the largest such share in Europe,” says Scheusan.

Iceland’s Actavis Group bought over in March 2006 Romanian Sindan Pharma pharmaceutical company for 147.5 million euros. For one year, the company operated as Sindan Actavis, after which the name changed to Actavis Romania in April 2007. Actavis officials say the company’s Romanian business might become a platform for Actavis exports of oncology compounds to Europe, the US and Asia, with the company eyeing exports worth 100 million euros in 2009 and the opening of a new factory for cytostatic drugs in 2010.

Actavis is estimating the Romanian pharmaceuticals market will be worth 5 billion euros in 2012.
Actavis Romania is ranked 14th in terms of importance among pharmaceuticals companies of Romania, according to data with Cegedim Romania market survey company.
Worldwide, Actavis reported total H1 2007 sales of 761.5 million euros, up 7.9 percent from 2006. Its portfolio comprises 650 products, 376 of which were release in 2006.
