Information in English

German group Continental AG will hire 1,500 experts in Romania by the end of 2008, company human resources manager Heinz Gerhard Wente told a press conference on October 8.

„This year we will hire 500 staff and yet another 1,000 next year, with fresh university graduates representing 30 percent of the newly recruited,” specified Wente.

Continental will mainly recruit engineers, construction experts, staff skilled in rubber and plastics processing and logistics experts.

Wente explained that recruitments would be even higher considering the merger of Continental with Siemens VDO, which will be completed as soon the European competition authorities approve it.

Continental AG employs 140,000 people worldwide and has a turnover of 25 billion euro. After the merger with Siemens VDO, the Siemens Car components division will rank second in Europe and fifth in the world after Bosch, Denso, Delphi and Magna.

In Romania, Continental invested 300 million euro since 1999 and has 3,750 employees, of whom 550 engineers, in its capacities located in Timisoara, Sibiu, Carei and Satu Mare. The Siemens VDO staff in Timisoara and Iasi will join this workforce.

Continental provides material support to technical faculties in Sibiu, Brasov, Iasi and Cluj Napoca, and starting early this year, the employees can attend training courses in Sibiu; a chair for rubber processing technologies was established for students.
