Romanian farmers will not be affected by a possible 25 percent cut in the European subsidies for agriculture. The funds meant for the direct payments per hectare are to be made from the national budget, said Dacian Ciolos, Undersecretary of State with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, on October 10

„Payments can theoretically be made in October from the national budget… till spring next year,” added Ciolos.

He made it clear that, during the auditing missions of the Integrated System of Administration and Control, the criticism made by the European Commission referred to the integration of all the five modules in the system, the delays being registered with the module of payment authorization.

"In late October, early November at the latest, will shall be able to speak of an integrated and functional payment system, the administrative and on site checks are to be finalized by the end of November," said Ciolos, who thinks that as these checks come to an end, they will be able to start the procedure of calculating and authorizing payments to farmers.
