Under an Emergency Ordinance approved during the government's Wednesday session, any park or green space set in the community plan, regardless its judicial status, shall no longer be used for the development of real estate projects, announced Minister of Environment Attila Korodi.
The ordinance amends and completes the government's Ordinance no. 195/ 2005 on the protection of the environment approved under Law 265/2006.
"The Emergency Ordinance puts an end to a long debate over the change of the destination of green space. The amendment removes any possibility to change the destination of such areas," said Attila Korodi.
Under the normative act, administrative or juridical acts issued or closed without observing these provisions are null and void," said the Minister of Environment.
"No green area can be changed and nothing can be built on it," said Korodi.
Public authorities are bound not to change the destination of land assigned as green area and/or designated as such in town planning documents, not to reduce its surface and not relocate it.
"Any community faced with the issue of constructions raised on green spaces must find alternative solutions. If green areas shrink, we will end in a paradise of concrete blocks, not in a living-friendly habitat." warned Korodi.
Korodi voiced hopes that the new act will also halt the real estate project the claimants of the Bucharest Bordei Park want to initiate here. Korodi also said that following actions in court, compensations will have to be paid in the case of particular green areas, for the landlords to preserve the initial status of the land plots.
