Loading ...Romania is placed 50th in rankings made by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) on the attractiveness of the business climate during 2008-2012 in 82 states.
Romania has advanced two slots, gaining 6.47 points up from 5.83 points last year, while topranker Denmark got 8.78 points, up from 8.74 last year on a 1-to-10 scale.
Romania’s accession to the European Union has brought about an improved business climate, the EIU says.
Since the big Romanian privatisations ended, the investment inflow, which is increasingly based on the profit reinvested by the foreign companies in Romania, will dwindle, but it will stand at more than 7 billion USD annually during 2008-2011, the report stresses. Romania will rank 38th in the top by the value of investments per capita, at 356 USD, while the GDP share of investments, at 3.93 percent, places Romania 28th.
As regards the Romanian foreign direct investments in other states, they will continue being very low, at 0.1 billion USD this year, with the value to reach 0.4 billion USD by 2011. Romania will rank last but one in Eastern Europe by this indicator this year, the EIU stresses.
Romania has got the highest number of points, 8.2, for the measures taken to control the foreign trade. The EIU analysts examine the Romanian economic climate and note that Bucharest has introduced a 16 percent flat tax, but they believe the Government is facing pressures related to increasing this tax or raising the value added tax.
Romania has been given the lowest number of points for the political efficiency (an indicator analysing the way that the pledged goals are met) at 4.5 points, slightly up from 2002-2006. The Romanian overall political climate has received few points – 5.5 – compared to 5.2 points in the previous period.
