Murfatlar company sells 1.1 – 1.2 million bottles of wine in a normal month, while in November and December the sales surge 75 percent. This year’s bestsellers of Murfatlar are Pinot Noir with a touch of Merlot and Muscat Ottonel, also Lacrima lui Ovidiu, Conu Alecu, Sec de Murfatlar and Rai de Murfatlar.
According to Murfatlar figures, the company last year sold over 2.5 million bottles of wine a month during the winter holiday season, which was up by 60 percent compared to a normal month.
Another top Romanian wine producer, Cotnari, reports sales by 35 percent higher in the holiday season against a regular month, when it sells 750,000 bottles of wine (0.75-litre bottle).
Its bestsellers are sweet wines Grasa and Tamaioasa Romaneasca.
