Loading ...The national currency leu’s depreciation and the maintaining of fluctuations of the exchange rate of up to plus minus 5 percent can bring an average value of exports of 3 billion euros a month, the President of the National Exporters and Importers Association Mihai Ionescu told Rompres.
“After three years of suffering, when the leu appreciated 30 percent and the exporters reported losses, bankruptcies and unemployment, the situation is now favorable. We don’t know how long it will last, but the exchange rate is favorable to exporters. I believe this return of growth pace can bring 3 billion euros per month from exports, if the exchange rate fluctuations do not exceed 5 percent. Otherwise, the effects will be discouraged through an artificial reduction of exporters’ competitiveness, in comparison with the competition abroad,” he said.
Ionescu said that the exporters expect from the Government fiscal measures to boost exports.
“We want the introduction of EU norms in the Fiscal Code on VAT to export, as the Romanian exporters are disadvantaged. The exporters in EU states do not pay VAT to export. Therefore, the Romanian exporters have 2.5 billion euros blocked at the Economy Minister, which are returned with delays. If the fiscal bodies cannot return these sums, these should be compensated from the state budget. We also ask that exporters may pay the taxes in foreign currency, as the Government also needs foreign currency to pay its foreign debt. We also ask the Eximbank Import Export Bank to introduce insurance policies for exports.

The sector’s recovery also depends on the consolidation of the monetary and fiscal policy, says the President of the Association.
