“Romania’s EU membership has had a massive influence on Kaufland’s operations. The benefit of accession has been the simplified import procedures, which makes it easier for us to import various products.
That has led to a broader range of goods and to a better response to the various local passing crises. After accession, a number of large retailers have decided to enter Romania as they found the situation here to be safer and more foreseeable. Retail competition will increase in the coming three years and Kaufland will be affected too,” said Adrian Viman, General Manager of Kaufland Romania.
In 2008, we shall try and keep the current position on the market and continue expansion in Romania. Given the low building capacity and 40 percent building costs, it is rather difficult to anticipate the exact number of hypermarkets that we will open this year.
We will, however, do our best to keep the current fast expansion and we shall begin this year with new hypermarkets in Braila, Craiova, Slatina and Pitesti. We will further invest in the logistic centre of Ploiesti, as well, Viman also said.
