The number of second-hand cars registered for the first time in Romania and of those reregistered in Romania exceeded in 2007 half a million units.
Romanian customers of second-hand cars registered as many as 123,842 units for the first time in 2007, according to figures of the Department for Driving Licenses Regime and Registration of Vehicles with the Romanian Police. Adding to this figure are other 406,249 used cars re-registered in Romania. The total of transactions in second-hand cars, the ones registered for the first time, and the one already in traffic, but which changed owner reached 530,091 units.
The overall transactions in used cars were by 41 percent higher than in the case of new ones.
The registrations of new cars, domestic and imported alike, stood at 312,589 units one year ago compared to 247,411 in 2006.

At the end of 2007, the Romanian car fleet reached 4,5012,266 vehicles, as against 4,104,835 vehicles registered on December 31 in 2006. In 2007 there were unregistered only 4,100 cars.
Most new cars registered in Romania in 2007 were Dacia cars with 93,666 units. Renault held the second place with 28,824 cars, followed by Volkswagen with 23,400 units, Daewoo with 16,395 units, Peugeot with 13,682 units, Chevrolet with 13,136 units, Hyundai with 10,600 units.
As regards the market of second-hand cars registered for the first time Romania, the first place is held by German cars. The leader is Volkswagen with almost 33,400 units, followed by Opel with 24,403 units and Ford with 14,351 cars.
