The cumulated businesses of the national railway operators (Passengers’ arm and Freight arm) might exceed 1.1 billion euros this year, which means a level close to the one in 2007. Thus, CFR Passengers estimates business worth 550.1 million euros, several percents less than in 2007, while CFR Freight counts on a turnover of 575 million euros.
In 2007, CFR Travellers’ turnover stood at 555 million euros, some 11 million euros less than a year before.
In 2007, CFR Freight transported 49.6 million tons and estimates 50 million tons in 2008, while CFR Travelers plans to maintain last year’s level of 85.7 million people.
Romanian Railways general director Alexandru Noaptes told Business Standard that the most profitable routes for CFR Travelers are Cluj-Napoca (center west), Brasov (center), Iasi (east), Suceava (northeast), Timisoara (west), Sibiu (center), Constanta (southeast) and, in summer, the routes towards the mountain and sea resorts.
In order to draw an increasing number of customers, the company will continue, in 2008, the investment program for the purchase and upgrading of trains.
Some 34 new carriages will be supplied by Astra Vagoane Calatori Arad this year, on 950,000 euros each. The new carriages might reach the speed of 160-200 km per hour.
