Restructuring of Romanian National Post Company, by end-2008

The restructuring of the Romanian National Post Company (CNPR) should be completed this year, so that the privatisation procedures be launched in 2009, Romanian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Karoly Borbely told Rompres.
“Only after the conclusion of the restructuring process of the Romanian Post we will be able to launch the procedure to select a consultant to elaborate a privatisation strategy, following to choose then the right moment on the market to launch the procedure, considering the way in which such a company will be received and its value,” the Minister of Communications said. He also added that currently there exists an important competition on the basic activity of the Romanian Post sector on the market, with the restructuring to be thus a good sign.
The Romanian State, the owner of the CNPR, via the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCTI), concluded a consultancy agreement with the Roland Berger Strategy Consultants for the drafting of a restructuring strategy of the Romanian Post, and the following implementation ahead of the privatisation of the company and improvement of the post services.

The Romanian Post launched a series of investments last year to increase the quality of its services to population, one of the projects being carried with the support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which granted 60 million euros for the building and modernization of the centres to select the mail for Bucharest and Cluj (central-western Romania).
The value of the investments estimated by the Romanian Post for the interval ahead stands at 100 million euros, with the sum including also the project with the EBRD for the selection centres, and also the acquisition process of the car park via an operational leasing or financial system and of the IT system.
The Romanian Post recorded a profit of more than 10 million euros January through September 2007, with the estimations for the entire year 2007 standing below the evaluations from the beginning of the year, of 25 million euros. In terms of turnover, the CNPR management estimated for 2007 the obtaining of 300 million euros.
The Romanian Post currently holds more than 7,100 offices nationwide, among which 1,100 are linked in the computerized network and has approximately 35,000 employees. the company’s shareholders are MCTI and the Proprietatea Fund, with 75 percent and 25 percent of the capital respectively.
