The portfolio of foreign investments projects, assisted and monitored by the Romanian Agency for Foreign Investments (ARIS), exceeds eight billion euros, announced on February 19, in a press conference, ARIS vice-president Monica Barbuletiu.
This portfolio includes 99 investment projects, set to create approximately 48,000 work places.
ARIS officials did not offer details about these projects, mainly confidential, but stressed that three of them are in excess of 450 million euros, and at least 10 may break the 100 million euros ceiling.
Moreover, another two very big value projects are to be added, in case foreign investors select a location in Romania. Austrian Voerst Alpine Co. plans to build an integrated steel combine in Romania, Ukraine or Bulgaria, the investment being of five billion euros, and another foreign company could implement an investment of three billion euros in Romania, according to ARIS representatives.
Last year, foreign investments in Romania amounted at 7.076 billion euros. Biggest value foreign investments assisted by ARIS were directed towards the less developed regions in Romania – south, south-west and north-east.
Alongside large projects – Renault Technologie, Delphi, Honsel, Nokia or Ericsson – ARIS is also monitoring investments such as Pirelli’s – 25 million euros (auto components), BYD China (Nokia supplier) – 20 million euros, Walkens – five million euros (printing, publicity), Hirschmann – five million euros (auto cables) and Helvoet (Belgium) – three million euros (medical equipment).
