According to a survey published on February 18 by Ziarul Financiar, the choices were motivated mainly by the wage level and the investment developed here.
Iasi and Constanta did not enter the top 5, the interviewed persons saying that the two cities have to wait a few years until they manage to create an attractive environment.
A ranking made by Association of Romanian Cities, based on the ration between number of inhabitants/revenues to the local budget, reveals that the wealthiest cities are Otopeni, Navodari, Mioveni, Targu Neamt and Cernavoda, all of them small to medium-sized cities.
All banks with activity in Romania opened a branch in Otopeni city, north of Bucharest. The Dacia car factory is the heart of Mioveni city (southern Romania), producing 310,000 vehicles this year.
Cernavoda (southeastern Romania) hosts the nuclear plant and plans to make operational two more reactors by 2013. Navodari (Black Sea coast collects revenues from Petromidia refinery and petrochemical works, while Targu Neamt (eastern Romania) set high taxes on buildings.
Bucharest, alongside Valencia, Birmingham, Leeds and Rotterdam, was among the cities with the steepest increase in business profitability, according to a report of Cushman&Wakefield/Healey&Baker.
