Tariceanu backs integration of national transport into European network

PM Tariceanu backed on March 6, during his meeting at Government House with EC Vice President and Commissioner for transport Jacques Barrot, the intention of Romanian authorities to develop a national transport network to be integrated in the Trans-European network.
 
According to a governmental release, the Romanian PM also stressed the importance of using the EU funds in developing the road and railway infrastructure.
 
The Bucharest head of Government reaffirmed the interest of domestic authorities in developing the high-speed railway project Budapest-Bucharest-Constanta, with great importance for the regional development.
 
Romania backs the application of Navigation programme through satellite Egnos and Galileo, meant to ensure Europe the independence in a strategic field and fulfil at the same time the goals in the Lisbon Strategy and the increase in economic competitiveness.
 
The two officials also spoke about the fluvial transport, with the Romanian PM underlining the strategic and economic importance of Constanta harbour and of other fluvial ports and Commissioner Barrot showing interest for the development of Romanian fluvial sector. The European official spoke about EC programme for the establishment of a Balkan transport community.
 
PM Tariceanu reaffirmed the importance and necessity to build a motorway to link the western and eastern Romania, with regional importance, making connection with Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Russia.
