Loading ...National air company Tarom will sign in April the agreement on the accession to the SkyTeam alliance, said on March 23 Transport Minister Ludovic Orban at a seminar devoted to infrastructure and held in Sinaia (southern Romania).
‘’Within a month approximately, Tarom will sign the agreement with SkyTeam in order to be included in the prominent alliance. The decision is the outcome of the fact that SkyTeam provides the best conditions and opportunities for the development of Tarom,’’ said the Romanian Transport Minister.
Tarom has been an associated member of the SkyTeam alliance since 2007.
SkyTeam has 10 members (Aeroflot, AeroMexico, Air France-KLM, Alitalia, China Southern, Continental Airlines, Czech Airlines, Delta, Korean Airlines, NWA) and operates 16,409 flights a day to 841 destinations from 162 countries. The overall number of passengers annually transported by member companies amount to 343.6 million passengers.
At present, there are three airline alliances at world level, namely SkyTeam, Star Allinace and Oneworld.
The first and the biggest airline alliance is Star Alliance, which has members such as Air Canada, air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, LOT (Poland), Austrian Airlaines, British Midland, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS), TAP Portugal, Spanair, Thai Airways, United Airlines, US Airways.
The members of Oneworld are Aer Lingus, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia Airlines, LAN and Qantas.
