Employment in Romanias call center industry to double in 2008

Employment in Romania’s call center industry is expected to double in 2008, from 5,000 in 2007, as Computer Generated Solutions (CGS), Genpact, Accenture, TechTeam Akela, Oracle and HP have unveiled recruiting plans for Romania.

US CGS company, the owner of EasyCall in Romania, is planning on tripling its staff size by hiring 1,000 more people to man one outsourcing service center in Brasov and another one in Bucharest. A CGS official told the media that the linguistic skills of Romanians weighted in heavy when the company decided to invest in the two centers, as multiple-language speakers is an obligatory requirement in this case. The CGS expansion investment exceeds 6.5 million euros, which is almost the same as the company’s 2007 business turnover.

In the economics of a call center, over 80 percent of the staff is made up of call center operators, with the remaining being administrative staff.

The Romanian call center industry was estimated at 70 million euros in 2007, with analysts counting on an annual growth rate of some 30 percent.

The main players on the local outsourcing market are Accenture, Genpact, TeleTech, XL World, Teleperformance and CGS.
