Romania has all the chances to rank among the first states in central and Eastern Europe with the most developed automobile sector in 2010-2011, even the first, Vice President of Automobile Dacia Constantin Stroe told Business Standard.

Stroe said that the growth sale rate of local producers on the domestic market will diminish over the next years, but growing sales are still expected for a decade.

The official said that Romania has the chance to become the country with the most developed automobile sector in 2010-2011, but everything depends on the ability to apply strategies and policies to attract investors in the automobile industry, taking also into account the European norms on state aids.

Speaking about the level of investment in the car part industry in Romania in 2008, Stroe said that he expects a new wave of investment in the car part industry, triggered by Ford’s investment in Craiova (southern Romania).

He says that the Romanian Agency for Foreign Investment (ARIS) has information about 10 investors in Ford system, located in an area 100 km around Craiova.

The car parts manufacturers working with Dacia-Renault will further invest, determined by Group Renault’s decision to increase production to 400,000 cars a year at the Mioveni factory, near Pitesti (southern Romania).

A strong trend for investment is seen in western Romania for the car parts manufacturers, an area chosen mainly by German producers.

Stroe also said that that the peak of investment in the car industry in Romania was not reached yet, and that moment is still far from Romania.

"I also believe that the migration phenomenon towards east of the automobile industry from northern and Western Europe has the tendency to stop in our region, as the price of crude oil and transport are on a steep rise and the globalization will become regional. Our region is well places: not far from the design and production centers in the East, near the most dynamic consumption poles and in a region with cheap labour force," he said.
