The air traffic surged by more than 47% January through March this year, while the lowcost traffic went up by 20%, according to official estimates.
The air market is rapidly growing in Romania due to the cut operated in the prices once the lowcost flights appeared on the market, and also due to the increase in the number of airlines and to the offer of charter flights.
Moreover, the internal traffic is also eyeing a growth mostly due to the fact that the railway infrastructure is currently being repaired on the main segments, with the road traffic also having become more and more difficult because of the lack of motorways.
As many as 1.8 million of the passengers last year chose the low-cost flights, with the other passengers having preferred the all-inclusive flights.
The weight of the low-cost traffic in the total traffic exceeded 20% in the context early last year this segment’s market share reached 9%, with 1.4 million passengers on the low-cost segment in 2006.
