Pharmaceutical company Antibiotice in Iasi (eastern Romania), one of the biggest Romanian producers, made exports worth 4.2 million euros in the first six months, up by 72% as against the same span of time in 2007.
The exports of conditioned products increased by 388%, whereas the exports of nistatine (an active substance, which is a raw material for medicine production) increased by 5.3%.
"The growth of the exports of conditioned products was possible thanks to the development of new strategic partnerships on new markets, besides the consolidation of the traditional business relations," managing director of the company Coca Cascaval told Business Standard daily.
According to her, the medium term export strategy aims at enlarging the portfolio of products registered on traditional markets (states in the Commonwealth of Independent States area, Vietnam or Tunisia), but especially at the development of their presence in European Union member states.
Nystatin accounts for 55% of the total exports. As the market for this substance is a mature one, with relatively slim chances of growing, the strategy on export development will focus on consolidating the presence of finished products, said Coca Cascaval.
Antibiotice in Iasi is controlled by the State Assets Realization Authority. The privatization of the above-mentioned company has been postponed several times, last time in March last year. Having a 3.2% market share and 68 million euros in turnover in 2007, the company comes 9th in the classification of the players on the local market.
