Loading ...Cheese production advanced 1,472 tons (+24.8 pct) in May 2008 from the month before, shows data published on July 8 by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
The upward trend was also visible for cow’s milk cheese, which accounts for 87.6 pct of the total cheese production.
According to INS, the production of fluid milk was by 1,862 tons (11.6 pct) higher in May 2008 than in the month before.
Cow’s milk collected by processing units increased by 9,812 tons (+2.2 pct) over January – May 2008 compared to the same period of the previous year.
The quantity of consumption milk increased with 1,870 tons (+2.3 pct).
The most significant advance was for fermented milk (yogurt, drinking yogurt, other), which went up 6,148 tons (+10.9 pct) compared to the previous year.
The Jan-May cream production was by 940 tons (+5.1 pct) higher than in the similar period of 2007, butter production was by 120 tons (+4.0 pct) and cheese production by 1,684 tons (+6.2 pct) superior to the same period of reference.
According to INS, the source of the data is the Monthly Statistical Survey on milk and dairy products, according to Council Directive no. 96/16/EC of March 19, 1996 on statistical surveys of milk and milk products and Directive no. 2003/107/EC of the European Parliament and Council of Europe, amending Council Directive no. 96/16/EC of December 5, 2003.
