Loading ...Sales of cement producer Holcim Romania, the local subsidiary of Swiss Holcim, increased 20% in the first quarter of 2007.
The rise accounts for only half of the 40% growth registered in H1 2007, compared to the first six months in 2006, reports Business Standard.
The most significant sales were on the residential and commercial segments, with the remainder infrastructure projects, the company’s General Manager, Markus Wirth, said. The best sales were registered in Bucharest and in northwestern, he added.
The Romanian construction market boom led to a 30% increase on the cement market last year. For 2008, however, producers estimate slower growth, of 10 – 15%.
All three major players on the local cement market, Holcim, Lafarge, and HeidelbergCement, registered lower growth rates in H1 2008, especially due to bad weather that delayed construction work.
