Information in English

During the inter-ministerial meeting on the situation in Italy taking place at the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) on Tuesday, it was established that in order to avoid any possibility of abuse, the Romanian authorities would ask the Italian officials for additional information on the Italian Minister of Interior Roberto Maroni's recent proposal to grant the Italian citizenship to all the Roma gypsy children born in Italy, who lost their parents.

The Romanian Government will ask the cooperation with the Italian authorities in the case of the Roma children found without parents but who speak Romanian or who have no papers, reads MAE release to Agerpres. In the dialogue with the Italian authorities, the Bucharest authorities will propose tangible solutions for the correct identification of the Roma minors and for their entering social insertion programmes managed by the relevant Romanian authorities.

In the context, it will be emphasized the strict enactment of the Accord between Romania on the repatriation of the unaccompanied minors, signed on the occasion of Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu's visit to Rome on June 11.
