Romanian President Traian Basescu stressed during talks with Italian ambassador Daniele Mancini at the presidential Cotroceni Palace on Tuesday the need to maintain 'a constant and substantive dialogue' between the two countries' governments on the issue of domestic security moves.

Mancini met Basescu on a farewell visit as he ends his diplomatic mission to Romania, the President's Office said in a release to Agerpres.

Basescu underscored the importance of cooperation, not of unilateral actions, amid the recent developments in Italy.

'During the talks, the Romanian head of state underscored the contribution made by ambassador Mancini to the development of the bilateral economic relations, that were boosted significantly during his term in Bucharest', the release said.

The president highlighted such important events as the signing of the declaration on updating the strengthened strategic partnership of Romania and Italy that sets the goals of the political cooperation within the European Union as well as an important rise in the economic exchanges accompanied by the increased presence of Italian investments in Romania.
