Informal meeting of ministers and state secretaries for European affairs held

State Secretary for European Affairs Raduta Matache participated in an informal meeting of the ministers and state secretaries for European affairs, which the French chairmanship of the EU Council staged in Brest, July 12-13, informs the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) in a press release.
 
During the meeting, the EU countries’ officials reviewed the stage of the process of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty and emphasized the importance of the Treaty’s coming into force till the EU elections due in 2009. The Romanian state secretary pointed out that the citizens’ commitment was extremely important for the European Union (EU) can continue progressing and stressed it was high time to renew the European project, the release said. Raduta Matache stressed Romania’s commitment for the European project. EU polls show that the European Union enjoys the most favourable image among the Romanians.
 
On the meeting’s sidelines, the Romanian state secretary visited school ship Mircea under the command of commodore SD Vergil Moraru. The school ship, known under the name of Bricul Mircea (Mircea Brig), currently in Brest harbour for an international sea festival, is taking place in this city July 11-17. Brest port festival brings together over 2,000 ships and 15,000 sailors from 25 countries.
