Ready-made men’s clothes manufacturer Secuiana, based in Targu Secuiesc (Covasna County, center), one of the most important on the domestic market, recorded in the first half of this year a higher turnover by 18%, up to the level of 14.94 million lei (4.2 million euros) compared to the similar period last year.
The profit advanced by 64% to the value of 424,000 lei (120,600 euros). Over January-June 2007, Secuiana reported business worth 12.58 million lei (3.5 million euros) and a profit of some 257,500 lei (73,200 euros).
The company is targeting this year the opening of some 18 stores in hypermarkets in Iasi (east), Arad (west), Braila (east), Oradea (west), Ploiesti (south), Suceava (north-east), Pitesti (south), as well as in other cities, the investment going to rise to more than three million euros.
Approximately 10 stores are to be opened under Adam’s brand. This year as well, Secuiana is to operate another three stores in Bucharest in a franchise system. In five years time, Secuiana plans to reach a network of 50-60 stores.
“Investment in a store refurbishing, including both the furniture and the lighting system is of 15-20,000 euros and the clothes on stock up to 150,000 euros”, Secuiana director general Laszlo Dobra was quoted as saying.
At the same time, the company plans to expand abroad, starting with next year, by opening some stores in hypermarkets in Hungary, Ukraine, Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria. At present, Secuiana holds a chain of 26 stores all over the country, to which five franchised units are to be added, in Bucharest and Arad.
The producer estimates for this year a turnover growth of 13%, up to 8.5 million euros from 7.6 million euros, 2007 level. In terms of quantity, the pants collection accounts for 65% of the total, the remainder being suits, blazers or knitwear.
The company was set up in 1968 and in 1992 was privatized through MEBO method. The capital is 100% Romanian. Its competitors on the domestic market are House of Art, Alison Hayes and Braiconf. There are almost 6,000 ready-made clothes companies in Romania, but just some 400 own their own brands, which are less known abroad, according to Maria Grapini, president of the Light Industry Employers Federation.
