Commenting on the refusal of the head of the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) to accept this position for which he was proposed by Minister of Justice Catalin Predoiu, Tariceanu said that he finds the magistrate’s gesture is out of place and that he does not know who will fill the position.
“I have no competence for appointing anyone in this position. This falls under the responsibility of the Minister of Justice. Surprisingly, Mr. Morar answered in two-hours time, which I find bizarre.
Probably Minister Catalin Predoiu will take notice of Mr. Morar’s refusal,” said Tariceanu.
“This dialogue is necessary because efforts must be made to have monitoring removed in 2 semesters,” said Tariceanu.
Minister of Justice Catalin Predoiu announced on August 11 that he would propose Daniel Morar for either the position of Romania’s high representative for Justice to the European Commission, or for deputy DNA chief-prosecutor, but the anti-corruption magistrate announced on the same day that he was considering none of the offers.
