Loading ...The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) might grant subsidies per hectare for the production of cultures and organic products, through state aid from the budget in 2008, whereas in 2009 the funds will be allotted by the National Programme for Rural Development for this sector, said on September 13 Agriculture Minister Dacian Ciolos.
“I proposed a draft governmental decision, which stipulates the extension of additional subsidies, under the form of state aid from the national budget for producers of organic products and the sums are to be paid by the end of the year,” said Ciolos, at a fair of organic products organized at the Village Museum of Bucharest.
Agriculture Minister Dacian Ciolos said that the bulk of the domestic organic production goes to export and that steps are needed with a view to supporting this sector, the national consumption of organic products being of only 2% of the total of food products annually consumed on the market.
“The organic products are not very cheap, because additional technology is needed, and the lack of the technology prompts higher costs, but the Romanian consumer has to be educated to consume such products, which are much more healthier,” said Ciolos.
