“We are prisoners of clichés. One of the clichés I want to speak of is that about European funds… Romania, since it entered the EU, had the best performance in point of management of programmes and projects from European funds. We have been the first to submit all sectoral operational programmes, we have been among the first to have them approved,” said Tariceanu.
He added that the process started very rapidly, but he also mentioned that in the first year, until procedures are approved, one cannot speak of absorption of post-accession funds, but only of absorption of pre-accession funds, “which has also been very good, under programmes such as Phare, ISPA and Sapard, and this year Romania is a net beneficiary of European funds.”
The premier said that the volume of the funds drawn is higher than the contribution of Romania to the budget of the European Union, he criticized the politicians saying that Romania would not be capable to draw European funds.
According to him, another cliché is the idea that Romania is a corrupt country, he added that Romania cannot be considered a country where there is no corruption.
“How many European countries can boast that they do not have corruption?,” the Liberal leader wondered.
