Raiffeisen Housing Bank (RBL), the Raiffeisen lender’s specialized branch for housing loans, plans to finalize the integration of the HVB lender by mid-2009. Raiffeisen Housing Bank will focus on promoting the savings component of its products, daily Business Standard quotes Alexandru Ciobanu, president and general manager as saying.

“We are awaiting approval from the Romanian National Bank and the Competition Council, and aim to launch a merger process by the end of this year,” daily Business Standard quotes Alexandru Ciobanu as saying.
The lender announced strategy changes amid financial market turmoil, when increasingly more banks are seeking to attract deposits. It plans to obtain more clients who are interested in saving money.

By mid-2008, Raiffeisen Housing Bank had some 160,000 clients and contracts worth some 600 million euros. Savings of Raiffeisen Housing Bank clients exceeded 70 million euros, some 20% higher than in December 2006.
