Loading ...President of the State Asset Realization Authority (AVAS) Teodor Atanasiu says that the Ford investment in Craiova (southern Romania) will not be affected by the economic crisis in the United States of America, as it is an investment for the European market.
The AVAS head told a news conference in Alba Iulia (central Romania) on October 3 that the kinds of motorcars to be made in Craiova would be in demand on the European market, according to the prediction for the years to come. “The predictions on the European market are very clear… Extraordinarily expensive cars will no longer be in demand, neither will be the ones with an extraordinarily high consumption, the small-sized cars and the ones with a low consumption will be in demand,” said Atanasiu.
He explained that the market tended to take such cars as there were no more car parks and in the urban busy traffic one could no longer use big motorcars. Another reason would be the one of the spectacular increase in the price of oil in the past few years, which practically led to doubling the price of fuel.
Last summer Ford Europe, the European division of the third biggest motor vehicle producer in the world, bought from the Romanian State, which was represented by AVAS, 72.4% of the shares of Automobile Craiova for 57 million euros.The Ford officials informed that 90% of the cars to be manufactured in the Craiova works would be exported.
