Loading ...The Romanian Government is concerned with finding a suitable person for the position of a minister-counselor, who should provide the liaison between the Romanian Justice Ministry and the EU institutions during such time when Romania is subject to the mechanism of cooperation and verification as well as after such mechanism stops, Justice Minister Catalin Predoiu said during a visit to Brussels on October 1.
“We are concerned with finding a suitable person for this job. Such a minister-counsellor may become a kind of ‘foreign minister’ of the Justice Ministry, one who should present in Brussels the situation in the ministry, the justice reform and the way things go, but also the other way round, i.e.
he/she should quickly communicate us what happens here, which are the opinions, the trends”, Predoiu told the Romanian reporters after meeting European Justice Commissioner Jacques Barrot.

“Such a person might back the outlining of a more prominent profile of Romania on the European agenda”, the minister explained, adding that the justice sector should be constantly aid enhanced attention, even if the current problems are going to be solved. “It is perhaps for this reason that we have reached the current situation, since for 15 years we have been concerned with other topics: the constitutional reform, privatisation and so on and suddenly we found out we have a problem”, Predoiu said.
The Romanian Government on Aug. 13 approved the setting up of a minister-counselor’s position as a high representative of the Justice Ministry in the relation with the European Commission; such an official should provide the dialogue with the European Union’s executive body referring Romania’s meeting the commitments made.
The justice minister said that he and Barrot had not discussed the issue of the appointment of a new head of the National Anti-Corruption Department nor the appointment of the minister counselor.
