Romanian Post to open 6 post offices in Spain

14 octombrie 2008

Information in English

Romanian Post National Company (CNPR) officially opened (on Oct 9) 6 post offices in 5 cities in Spain where there are large Romanian communities, CNPR operational executive director Mihai Cristian Buciu told.

“Part of these offices are already operational, but we want to open them officially on October 9, when the World Post Day is celebrated, and the inauguration is to start with the office in Valencia”, said Buciu. The six CNPR postal offices in Spain will be opened in Barcelona, Valencia, Castellon and Mallaga (one each) and two in Madrid.
He also stressed that, even though there are requests from other zones in Spain to open some postal offices, CNPR will not continue this year to expand on the Spanish territory.

“We are not going to expand on the Spain’s territory in 2008 although we received such requests from Granada zone – an agricultural zone where many Romanians are employed. The major preoccupation of the Romanian Post is to expand the postal services range due to an increasing traffic during winter celebrations, both on the side of parcels and on the money sent to Romania by the relatives working abroad and mainly by those in Spain”, said CNPR operational executive director.

According to the quoted source, CNPR plans to open 2 more postal offices in Italy by this year end.
Alongside traditional services these offices will also have a service expressly requested by the Romanian communities in Spain, namely the “bill payment service” connected to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) of the Romanian Post.

Through this new service Romanians in Spain can pay directly their utility bills and installments to the Romanian Post partner banks under conditions in which some 40% of the money sent by Romanians abroad are used to pay various utility bills and credit instalments.
Officially, in each of the two countries, Spain and Italy, there are over one million Romanians, but unofficially the number might be double.
According to BNR statistics, some 7-8 billion euros enter annually in Romania, money sent by Romanians abroad, especially from Spain and Italy.
