The National Bank of Romania (BNR) will reach the most severe measures against the  dangerous rumour-mongers” inside the banking system who send malicious signals to the market, BNR governor Mugur Isarescu told a press conference on October 13.
On the other hand, Isarescu voiced appreciation for mass media that this time had an extremely responsible, far more mature attitude, and no longer took the “bait” about Banca Transylvania.

“If the rumor is proven to have originated inside the banking system, I will ask for the toughest sanctions to be reached against these dangerous rumour-mongers, and licenses will be lifted too.
We will look at the European legislation and request that measures be reached against the rumour spreaders, starting with those who work inside the system. Such persons should never be accepted to work with a Romanian bank again,” added the BNR official.

Isarescu mentioned that the BNR representatives met with representatives of the Romanian Banks Association and the sides decided that BNR should support the Association’s plan to find a way to handle those who spread toxic information on the banking market.
The BNR governor added that Romanian banks are highly solid as far as both capital and liquidity are concerned and the solvency and liquidity indices count to the best in the region and even in the world.
