Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu accompanied by his wife and by Agriculture Minister Dacian Ciolos paid a visit on October 19 to a farm fair being held in front of the Palace of Parliament, which offered him the opportunity to praise the contribution made by farming to the Romanian economic growth.
“Agriculture has had a very important contribution this year to the growth of the gross domestic product. There is 9% growth, to which farming will contribute at least 1 or 1.5%, by our estimations”, Tariceanu said.
The prime minister met the farm producers, who spoke to him about the problems they face, with the most discontent being a producer of palinka, who voiced dissatisfaction with the restrictions set by the European Commission on alcoholic beverage making.
“Certainly, what they (the producers – editor’s note) want cannot always be achieved. There are increasingly stricter and more severe norms on the production and sale of foodstuffs. But I think the progress made by Romanian agriculture is visible”, Tariceanu commented and he advised the producers to take advantage of the forms of support offered by the Government.
The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is staging the Autumn Farm Fair on Sunday, in Bucharest’s Constitution Square.
