Loading ...The overall value of gross premiums derived for compulsory motor insurance policies (RCA) valid in 2007 exceeded the value of 1.4 billion lei (some 420 million euros), with more than 5.5 million insurance policies concluded, according to the report drawn up by the Insurance Supervisory Commission (CSA).Of these, 3.9 million policies were concluded by individuals and 1.6 million policies were concluded by companies.
Last year, as daily Ziarul Financiar reports, the biggest insurers in the segment of motor insurance policies for individuals were Asirom (35.5 million euros gross subscribed premiums), Omniasig (30.4 million euros), Astra (24.9 million euros), Unita (22 million euros), BCR Insurance (21.1 million euros) and Ardaf (14 million euros).
At the end of this year, the ranking might change, however, because Ardaf, for instance, which sold car insurance policies at the lowest price on the market for several categories of vehicles, might lead the ranking. In H1, the company sold RCA insurance policies worth 42 million euros, three times more than the entire year of 2007.
Car insurance policies RCA bring insurers not only rapid rises, but also significant damages, which sometimes cannot be covered from revenues because the low prices practiced. Many companies that have losses claim that the minus reported in business was caused especially because of the RCA policies and Casco policies, daily Ziarul Financiar reports.
The compulsory motor insurance policies (RCA) market will develop fast in the next years, too, because in Romania the number of cars per 1,000 people is much lower than in other EU countries.
According to the information supplied by Generali Insurance, in Romania there are 1267 cars per 1,000 dwellers, compared to 667 cars in Luxembourg, 588 in Italy, 556 in Germany, 323 in Bulgaria or Poland and 285 in Hungary.
