The small wooden church of Rozavlea, Maramures County (north), a UNESCO monument, was listed again, last weekend as a travel destination, after having been closed for rehabilitation works, for 2 months.
It was rehabilitated the church’s roof, quite worn-out because of heavy rain and snow-falls, as well as its inside structure, Rozavlea mayor Vasile Marza told.
The repairing and the rehabilitation works cost 170,000 lei and were paid from the budget of the Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs and achieved by Rustic Company specialized in the conservation of historic monuments, particularly wooden architecture ones.
The small church of Rozavlea was built of fir wood, in 1717, over an older church ruined by the Tartars. Its has as saint-patrons SS Michael and Gabriel, and its inside paintings were painted by a local artist Ioan Polhod, both on canvas and wood, during the year 1820.
Thousands of Romanian and foreign tourists come and visit the little church of Rozavea, every year.
