Banca Transilvania biggest visa card issuer in Romania

Banca Transilvania (BT) is currently the biggest visa card issuer in Romania. With over 1,200,000 visa cards on the market 12.5% of the card market and offers 13 card types, namely debit, credit and co-branded ones, for a wide range of clients among whom business people, physicians or students.
 
“I congratulate the Banca Transivania for its performance. This success mirrors both BT’s consistency in promoting online card payments and the appreciation of the Visa products by the Bank’s clients. It is well known on the market, BT’s concern for the diversification of its card range aimed at meeting the demands of as many client segments as possible. At present, Banca Transilvania’s portfolio numbers ten Visa products for individuals and companies, said Romania Visa Europe general manager Catalin Cretu.
 
BT results as an e-commerce services supplier were also recently acknowledged, the Bank wining the prize for best performance and high quality services provider, at the E-Commerce Awards Gala.
Banca Transilvania is omnipresent throughout Romania, through its 526 branches and 750 ATMs and 10,000 POS terminals.
 
Banca Transilvania ranks among the first five banks of Romania, in terms of assets, and it runs mainly Romanian capital. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) holds 15% of BT’s share capital being a significant BT shareholder. BT is a financial institution numbering 6,000 employees. According to a survey conducted in 2008, BT ranks among the ten best-known Romanian brands, and it is the first Romanian bank listed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) since 1997.
 
There are over 360 million debit, credit and business Visa cards in Europe, and they were mainly used for payments and cash withdrawals totaling over 1.3 thousand billion euros, late in 2007, and 11.4% of the expenditures in Europe were made by visa cards.
