Bucharest’s car fleet currently totals 1.113 million vehicles and it is expected to reach 1.21 million by the end of the year, chief police officer Marian Motoc told a conference on car industry, quoting Bucharest’s Traffic Police Brigade’s data.
Bucharest’s car fleet numbered 1.1 million vehicles, late in 2007 and the Police’ analyses say that over 1.45 million cars are expected to be registered in Bucharest, by 2010.
As many as 743,943 Bucharest’s inhabitants have driving licenses, while the city totals 2.082 million dwellers.
As many as 896 serious car accidents happened and 845 people were severely wounded in Bucharest, during the first nine months of 2008 compared to 865 and to 783 respectively over the whole 2007. Car accidents killed 104 people in Bucharest over Jan-Sept 2008 vs. 122 last year.
Although Bucharest’s car fleet represents almost a quarter of Romania’s (4.50 million vehicles, the number of serious accidents, where 3,690 died, represents only 17.42% of the total throughout Romania.
