President Traian Basescu attended on November 7, in Brussels, an informal meeting of the Heads of State and Government from the European Union member states, the Presidential Administration informs in a release.
This meeting’s objective was to hold in-depth discussions on the overcoming the current financial crisis, initiated at the European Council of October 15-16 and identification of the proposals and initiatives the EU will promote at the G-20 Summit to take place on November 15, in Washington, aimed at launching the necessary reforms of the international financial architecture.
“On the background of the current financial crisis, the European Union proved its capacity to come up with efficient solutions for the re-balancing of the financial system. It is important that, together with its international partners, it will outline further efforts to this end on the global scale”, said the release.
At the same time, the summit allowed an evaluation of the economic and financial situation within the EU, as well as the implementation stage of the measures decided by the European Council in the autumn.
Attending the summit in Brussels there were the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Poettering and the President of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet.
