130 years of Romanian-Turkish diplomatic ties

Romania and Turkey are willing to strengthen their friendship ties with a view to ensuring international stability, peace and prosperity and to defining a joint vision over the future, reads a joint press release on Thursday (Nov 20), issued by the Romanian Foreign Ministry on the occasion of the anniversary of 130 years since the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
 
According to the source, "Romania and Turkey are voicing satisfaction at the positive level of the bilateral ties and at their pace over the past few years, increased by Romania's firm support of Turkey's bid to the EU."
 
"The establishment of an intense dialogue by consultations on the evolutions in the Black Sea area and southeastern Europe, with a view to ensuring stability in the geographic space they belong to," and "the further cooperation within NATO as well as the regional initiatives like SEECP, the Regional Cooperation Council, OCEMN, The Black Sea Synergy, Barcelona Process, The Union for the Mediterranean, BlackSeaHarmony and BLACKSEAFOR Operation" are, according to the join press release, goals of the continuous cooperation between Romania and Turkey.
 
According to the document, the two countries are backing the international disarmament and weapon control efforts and are willing to further cooperate within the regional mechanisms they are part of, with a view to solving the "environmental problems the two countries have."
Further development of the bilateral economic and commercial ties, of the cooperation in the field of infrastructure and energy security and of the rotating mechanism of periodic consultations on the "consular matter" are goals of both Turkey and Romania.
 
On the other hand, the two countries reiterate the importance of cooperation in the cultural, education and scientific field, "given the cultural, artistic and historical patrimony" of both countries.
The release also mentions the importance of the Romanian-Turkish cooperation at the level of news agencies and media institutions.
 
"Romania and Turkey, friend and allied countries, have deeply rooted ties that are further developing based on mutual respect and joint interests. Over the last period, the traditional cooperation between Romania and Turkey has strengthened, by its contribution to regional stability and to ensuring world peace, as allies and partners," the release reads.
