The net coal output reached 4.896 million tonnes in oil equivalent January through September this year, that is a drop by 2.5% on the same interval last year, according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Romania imported 1.646 million tonnes of coal in oil equivalent over January-September, that is an increase by 28.8 compared with the first three quarters of 2007.
The coal output in Romania totalled 7.4 million tonnes in oil equivalent last year, that is a growth by 1.3% on the 2006 output and represented 0.2% of the world’s coal output, according to statistics of the oil company British Petroleum.
In 2007, the coal output stood at approx. the same value as back in 1997.
With regards to the consumption of coal, this stood in Romania at 9 million tonnes in oil equivalent and represented 0.3% of the world’s consumption.
Romania held a 422 million tonnes coal reserve in oil equivalent in end-2007, with the largest reserve having been held by the US – 157.01 billion tonnes in oil equivalent and China – 114.5 billion tonnes in oil equivalent. The EU reserves totalled 229.57 billion tonnes in oil equivalent (3.5 percent of the total).
