Romania has registered four million foreign tourists in the first half of 2008, by 32.5% more than during the same time span last year, reads the activity report over Jan- Oct, 2008 the Tourism Department of the Ministry for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs), Tourism and Liberal Professions drew up.
As many as 62.1% of the foreign visitors to Romania came from EU countries, namely most of them from Hungary (35.6%), Bulgaria (21.8%), Germany (9.2%) and Italy (7.9%), the report says on.
The Ministry was spending about 2.88 million euros on events at home and abroad to promote the Romanian tourism, during the above said period.
Likewise, the same Ministry allocated 557,594 euros to several events organized in the second half of 2008, along with more 74,755 euros to the promotion in several airlines companies and over 194,000 euros to advertising in several travel catalogues.
At the same time, the Ministry for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs), Tourism and Liberal Professions allotted about 10,600 euros to buy promotional items such as Romanian press kits, maps, albums, catalogues, travel books.
About 596,000 euros was spent on promotion and Romanian tourist products, for both the domestic and the foreign media as well as in several cities in Europe, Russia, US and Japan.
34 travel industry operators from Romania participate in World Tourism Fair in London As many as 34 travel industry operators (agencies, hotels, air companies, event organizers) from Romania participated over November 10 – 13 in the World Tourism Fair in London.
Romania had a 270 sq m pavilion at this 29th edition of the largest tourism fair in the world exclusively dedicated to specialists – World Travel Market (WTM).
“At this WTM edition Romania promoted George Enescu International Festival, in September 2009, Christmas and New Year’s Eve vacations in Maramures, a bicycle tour of Transilvania, honeymoon-type holidays in the Danube’s Delta, health care tourism, short vacations in cities, rural zones and natural parks. As well, a great part of tourism operators promoted Romania’s capacity to organize and host conference and congress type events”, explained Lucia Morariu, State secretary in the Ministry for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions.
As a first, WTM had an official partner from mass media. “The Sunday Times” had a special edition dedicated to the fair, where Romania is presented as a vacation destination in 2009. As well, Romania was included in the official publication of this fair “Launchpad – What’s new at WTM 2008", with George Enescu festival at the forefront.
The Romanian tourist operators organized a raffle for the international press, with awards as holiday packages in Romania and air tickets, offered by Cultural Romtour, Radisson SAS Hotel and Blue Air.
“We were overjoyed that at Romania’s stall in the fair ADEPT Foundation promoted traditions and culinary art from rural areas in Transilvania. The foundation originates in Great Britain and deals with a management transfer to similar NGOs in our country”, explained Morariu.
