Loading ...Romania’s subway Metrorex will receive, according to the draft budget for 2009, a total amount of 1.28 billion lei, up 50% against the 2008 budget, said Metrorex general manager Gabriel Mocanu.
“The draft budget in 2009 set 727 million lei for its operations, of which 250 million from our own revenues and the rest of the amount from the state budget. Some 562 million lei will be allotted to investment, of which loans account for 1 million lei,” Mocanu said.

The total budget of Metrorex in 2008 stood at 859 million lei, of which 523 for daily operations and 336 for investment. Of the amount, 120 million are foreign loans.
Metrorex representatives said works will be further conducted as of 2009 on the segment 1 May – Zarea, on the main line 4 (Gara de Nord 2 -Laromet) with 100 million lei likely to be used for the construction of main line 5 (Universitate – Drumul Taberei).

Also in 2009 will be completed the traffic management system, providing for a direct line between Industriilor station in Western Bucharest and the Ring Road in Eastern Bucharest.
For 2008 Metrorex estimated a 5 to 10% growth in the travellers’ traffic against 19% in 2007.
