Special steel plant Mechel Targoviste, south, posted a net profit worth over 115 million lei, in the first 9 months this year, up five times from the net result in the similar period of last year, according to financial information sent to Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).
January through Sept, Mechel made revenues of over one billion lei and made expenses worth 907.7 million lei, with the turnover standing at 983.2 million lei.
The total expenses of the company stood on Sept 30, 2008, at 249.6 million lei, and the debts at 149.8 million lei.
Some 3,000 employees from Mechel Targoviste, the former special steel plant, were on short time working, and the production at Erdemir, the former department of the plant, fell by some 2,000 tonnes, with the economic crisis felt at world level.

In Romania, Mechel International Holdings have control of other two plants, Mechel Targoviste and Mechel Campia Turzii, center. In April 2008, Mechel took over fully Romanian maker Ductil Steel, for 142 million euros, or 221 million dollars.
