As many as 35 wine makers and agri-food producers based in the Italian region of Abruzzo are contemplating entering the Romanian market. For this purpose, an association for the promotion of the products specific to that area has been set up, which will help develop trade relations between Romania and the Abruzzo region, says Claudio Teseo, Chairman of the Association of Abruzzo Inhabitants of Romania (AAR).
“We wish to help companies from the Abruzzo Region to launch their wines, pasta, canned foods and olive oil on an extremely attractive and promising market, and we are being supported in this endeavor by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Abruzzo Region and by the Italian Foreign Trade Institute. First and foremost we need information for the Abruzzo-based companies as I am quite convinced good things could be achieved together with Romanian companies despite the world financial crisis,” said Teseo.
The AAR chairman said the Abruzzo region was very similar to some Romanian regions, being a mountainous area.
The newly established association aims to support the legal interest of companies headquartered in Abruzzo by concluding partnerships and conducting business projects, as well as cooperation programs and economic missions.
Abruzzo representatives have already launched in May in Bucharest a showroom entitled “By Abruzzo” with products originating from this region, where more than 100 wines can be tasted.
They said a red Abruzzo wine was among the top 10 wines in the world, with an excellent pricequality ratio.
By Abruzzo is also a business opportunity for Romanian companies, being a wider project including wine and olive oil taster’s training.
A wine taster seminar will be held November 19-22 attended by 20 Romanian participants with relevant experience.
“We have organised these courses in order to create an ethnological culture and to have professionals able to sell Italian wines in Romanian restaurants and combine wine with the dishes they eat,” says representative of the Abruzzo Wine Tasters Association Gaudenzio D’Angelo.
Italian representatives are planning to launch a Romanian website called By Abruzzo in the near future.
There are 20,000 Italian companies currently operating in Romania, especially in the western part of the country.
