Loading ...The Romanian Minister of Agriculture, Dacian Ciolos, had a meeting with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Mariann Fischer-Boel on November 27, in Brussels, focused on a series of issues among which the modification of Romania’s rural development program in order to include financing sources for the organic farming.
“When this program was negotiated and outlined, we were not in possession of the needed data, allowing us to come up with arguments in favor of the introduction of the organic farming. But nowadays we have them and we can bring modifications to the program”, pointed out the Romanian official.
He stressed that Romania will submit, most likely in January next, its proposals of modification of the rural development program. “I asked the Commissioner to give us a helping hand in speeding up the approval process for these modifications, so that we can start as quickly as possible to finance organic farming in Romania”, said Ciolos.
During November 27 meeting as well, the Romanian Minister also raised the issue of a bolstered amount, in line with the European standards, destined to cover the milk production subsidies. “In the past year we registered a growth of the quality milk quantities, but the total amount at national level, notified prior to accession is limited and it was exceeded by far by the aid demands. We wish to find out a solution so we can finance all quality milk producers”, underscored the Minister.
Dacian Ciolos also said that in this period of crisis the European Commission should prove a more flexible approach as for the structural funds accession, especially of those earmarked for rural development.
According to Ciolos, it could be of great help if the co-financing degree for the rural development projects is set higher, so the farmer would no longer be forced to guarantee the entire amount borrowed from the banks.
