Romania – country of opportunities for uninterruptible power suppliers (UPS)

8 decembrie 2008

Information in English

Romania and Bulgaria are currently the markets in Central and Eastern Europe with the most significant increase of the uninterruptible power segment (UPS), according to a study carried by the Frost&Sullivan consultancy company, MarketWatch says.
The integration in the European Union has brought Romania 3.078 billion euros in aids for the development of industry, transports, rural and environment infrastructure and the agricultural sector’s support.

The uninterruptible power suppliers currently have huge opportunities in Romania, given the recent evolutions in the electric power production, telecommunications and automotive. With the increase of the domestic consumption and the good evolutions in the car making, industry and trade sectors, the demand of the Romanian market for UPS equipments is on the rise.

The global economic crisis which affects economies of the United States and Western Europe would harm Romania more modestly. On the short term it is possible that the economic development to slow down as a result of the cut in the direct foreign investments, the industrial production and the real estate investments. On the medium and long term the prognosis is optimistic, as it offers great opportunities for the uninterruptible power suppliers (UPS).

A rapid growing sector in Romania is the automotive industry, where companies such as Renault and Ford have started to make cars locally, by creating new jobs. Other car makers aim at Romania too in order to install production capacities. All these plants have got a high level of automatization and need uninterrupted power supply, so that the uninterrupted power sources are essential.

The telecom market is on the rise too, given the low level of penetration of the telephony services. Taking into consideration the necesity of implementation of the EU Directive regarding the data putting away on the identity of the caller for at least six months, this has increased the necessity to have data call-centers, which in their turn need uninterrupted power supply.

Another sector on the rise is the electric power sector. The EU integration and the privatization of RENEL former state monopol attracted a lot of utilities foreign companies. Even if Romania produces electric power from a large scale of sources, the nuclear energy ensures an important percentage of the electric power supplied. The safety of the nuclear power plants depends on the back-up power supply systems.

Given the development of the energy sector, as well as the opportunities offered by the telecom and the automotive sectors, Frost&Sullivan forecasts that the uninterruptible power suppliers (UPS) have much to gain on the Romanian market.
