“Alonia has not been started as a direct competitor to Yahoo! Messenger or Skype. We wanted to provide a transparent communication service accessible to Romanians all over the world, something like a virtual homeland for them,” Media Sat CEO Liviu Gheorghe told daily Ziarul financiar.
Data retrieved by Google Analytics indicate that Alonia recorded 91,000 visitors and 342,000 web pages accessed in three days after launch. Most of the IP addresses were from Romania, but the company expects to see a greater impact on the Romanian communities outside Romania.
Media Sat has invested nearly 400,000 euros a year in developing the application, on which a ten-people team worked for one year.
Nearly 95% of Media Sat’s business turnover is derived from services provided to individual customers. Among the corporate customers of Media Sat are Ciel, Danone, the Henri Coanda Airport, Intrarom, Pro TV, Romavia, Radcom and Ringier.
