9 decembrie 2008

Information in English

Petrom the biggest Southeastern European crude and methane maker and ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Romania Ltd, signed an agreement on exploring together the crude potential of the deepest seawaters in the area of the Romanian Black Sea shore resort Neptun.
Neptun deep offshore area covers about 9,900 sq. km, ranging between 50m and 1,700 m deep, Petrom release says.

The joint exploration works will be directed to the deep waters area, and a wide-scale data seismic acquisition survey is planned during 2009. Petrom is to conduct the initial operations including the seismic acquisition and the environmental surveys in the deep offshore area.
Exxonmobil will finance most of the works and provide expertise in the assessment of the newly acquired seismic data. Deep sea exploration requires high technology and Petrom makes an important step through starting exploration works in seawaters deeper than 100 meters.

“The cooperation with ExxonMobil is an important step for Petrom as regards the exploration for the Black Sea crude potential. The Romanian deep Black Sea waters have not been explored so far. We are glad that such a financially powerful and experienced Company like Exxonmobil stands by and we work together in the assessment of the Neptun perimeter’s crude potential,” said Petrom official Johann Pleinninger in charge with Exploration and Production activities.

ExxonMobil avails of a considerable expertise in all the fields of deep sea exploration and we see this cooperation as an opportunity to enact our experience in a new, very promising region, said ExxonMobil Business Development vice-president Elwyn C. Griffits.
The exploration of the Romanian Black Sea offshore platform in the areas where the sea water was less deep, started in 1969 when the first seismic acquisitions were performed. Crude was found there in 1980 and rig works began in 1986. At present Petrom operates two offshore perimeters, namely Istria XVIII and Neptun XIX, totaling 13,880 sq km.

Petrom currently holds four drilling platforms, namely Lebada East, Lebada West, Sinoe and Pescarus and a fifth is developing in the Danube Delta. Petrom’s annual production attains almost 31,000 BOED (barrels of equivalent per day), which means about 16% of Petrom’s production in Romania.

Petrom is the biggest Romanian Oil and Methane Company with activities such as Exploration, Production, Refinery, Pertrochemicals, Marketing, Methane and Energy. Petrom exploits crude and methane reserves assessed at 0.9 billion BOED, has an annual refining capacity of 8 million tones and round 550 distribution stations in Romania.
The Company also owns an international network numbering 257 gas stations in the Republic of Moldova, Bulgaria and Serbia, OMV the leading group in the Central European oil and methane industry holds 51.011% of Petrom’s shares.ExxonMobil is the biggest world, nongovernmental methane supplier and the biggest oil and special oil and chemical products maker.
